"PEP could stop my boyfriend getting HIV so we know how to get it. My HIV clinic even offered us PEP drugs to keep at home in case of an emergency."

PEP is four weeks of anti-HIV drugs that must be started very soon after the risk has been taken; the sooner the better and definitely within 72 hours (three days). After three days it’s too late for PEP to work.
